Beginner Sweater - Inovec
Learn to knit a sweater using the beautiful “Inovec” pattern.
This class is perfect for beginners eager to expand their skills and create a cozy, stylish garment from scratch. Julia will guide you step-by-step through the basics of sweater construction, covering everything from gauge to reading the pattern to picking up for the sleeves and modifications.
By the end of this class, you’ll have completed a soft, comfortable sweater for winter wearing and gained confidence to tackle another sweater on your own.
There are two sizes to choose from: a S/M (42”) and a L/XL (51”). This was our “team” sweater for 2024 Knit North Yarn Crawl so we have plenty of samples for ogling and trying on if you’re deciding on your size.
This sweater can be knit with a lot of yarns! Anything from a heavy worsted to a bulky-weight will do. The weight of your yarn will help determine the finished weight of your garment so if you want super cozy go for a bulky weight and if you want warm but lighter choose something in the worsted to Aran-weight range. Some of our shop samples are in Noro Tasogare, Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok Tweed, and Lang Cloud.
In this class, you will learn:
-
About gauge
-
Fit and positive vs negative ease
-
Basic sweater construction
-
How to make a top down sweater (beginning at the ribbed neck edge)
-
Short rows and why to use them (or not!)
-
Picking up sleeve stitches
Meet new people and have a fabulous sweater by the end - no prior sweater experience needed!
The dates may seem strange but we’ve found that meeting twice in a row and then spacing other meetings out a little further gives everyone time to get their knitting done in between each class.
Materials needed:
-
A copy of the Inovec pattern (available on Ravelry)

-
US size 9 circular needles (16” and 32” should do the trick)

Tapestry needle
-
A can-do attitude and a willingness to learn!
