Beginner Sweater - Easy Eyelet Yoke Sweater

Learn to knit a sweater using the beautiful “Easy Eyelet Yoke Sweater” pattern.

This class is perfect for beginners eager to expand their skills and create a cozy, stylish garment from scratch. Julia will guide you step-by-step through the basics of sweater construction, covering everything from gauge to reading the pattern to picking up for the sleeves and modifications.

By the end of this class, you’ll have completed a soft, comfortable sweater for winter wearing and gained confidence to tackle another sweater on your own.

A sweater designed for everyday wear, you can dress it down for running errands or dress it up for going out to dinner. There are nine sizes to choose from, XS (28") to 5XL (62").

This sweater is designed to be knit in an Aran weight yarn - we have plenty of options to choose from, everything from wooly to lofty. We're recommending Sandnes Garn KOS, Green Mountain Spinnery Mountain Mohair, and Noro Tasogare.

In this class, you will learn:

  • About gauge

  • Fit and positive vs negative ease

  • Basic sweater construction

  • How to make a top down sweater (beginning at the ribbed neck edge)

  • Picking up sleeve stitches

  • Plenty of tips and tricks along the way!

Meet new people and have a fabulous sweater by the end - no prior sweater experience needed!

The dates may seem strange but we’ve found that meeting twice in a row and then spacing other meetings out a little further gives everyone time to get their knitting done in between each class.

Materials needed:

  • A copy of the Easy Eyelet Yoke Sweater pattern (available on Ravelry)

  • Enough yarn to make your chosen size

  • US size 10 circular needles (16” and 32” should do the trick)

  • Stitch markers

  • Tapestry needle

  • A can-do attitude and a willingness to learn!

We request you purchase your yarns, needles (that you don’t already have), etc. at Yarns in the Farms for this class. Mention you're enrolled in class and receive a 10% discount on your materials.
