Intermediate/Advanced Sweater - Ruuno Cardigan

Join Tracy to make the oh-so-cozy, boucle "Ruuno" this winter!

Knit up in super soft Urth Yarns Lanalpaca on US size 10.5 & 11 needles, this sweater will be done in plenty of time for cold weather snuggling.

What makes this a more advanced pattern? Well, for starters knitting with boucle yarn makes reading your stitches a bit more challenging so you need to trust yourself a little more. And while this sweater is worked top-down and seamless, there is short row shaping in multiple places (body & sleeves) and picked up stitches for the sleeves and wide collar.

There are 10 different sizes to choose from (from 41.25" up to 78") and it has a suggested positive ease of 8-14". This is a sweater to snuggle up in for sure!

You can find the pattern on Ravelry: Ruuno

We will cover:
- Gauge
- Fit
- German Short Rows
- Picking up stitches
- Drop sleeves and shaping
- Applied, ribbed collar
- Faux seams

Meet new people and have a fabulous sweater by the end!

Prior to the first class, please knit and block a gauge swatch so we can jump right in.

NOTE: Lanalpaca is the yarn the sweater was designed in and will be used for this class. It is a super bulky, boucle yarn that is 50% alpaca and 50% merino. If you don't like fuzzy yarn/garments, this probably isn't the project/class for you.

Materials:

  • a copy of the "Ruuno" pattern (available on Ravelry)
  • enough Urth Lanalpaca to make your chosen size
  • US size 11 circular needles, 32" (for the body)
  • US size 11 needles for the sleeves - either DPN, magic loop, or 16" circular depending on sweater size being made
  • US size 10.5 circular needle for the body ribbing, 32"
  • US size 10.5 needles for the sleeves - either DPN, magic loop, or 16" circular depending on sweater size being made
  • stitch markers - ring and padlock/bulb styles both recommended
  • waste yarn or The Knitting Barber cords for putting stitches on hold
  • darning needle

(a note re: needle sizes - your needle sizes may differ depending on your gauge, the needle sizes recommended are the ones the designer used to achieve gauge)

Instructor: Tracy
Instructor Bio: Tracy's been at Yarns in the Farms for over nine years now - how time flies. Her aunt taught her to knit when she was a teenager and she really only started making sweaters after she started working here. Her annual Christmas hat tradition just keeps growing, which means she should really start knitting them in July but still hasn't learned her lesson. Half of Tracy's handknits can be found residing at the shop at any given time and someday her unfinished WIP bin will be empty (maybe?).
