Summer Shellfish KAL

Summer is almost here and we're gearing up for a shellfish knit-a-long (KAL) that is a match made in heaven for those of us who love the sea!

Join us to make one of Adventure Bound Designs/Whitney Terrell's shellfish sweaters. If you visited the shop around Knit North Yarn Crawl time this year - aka March into early April - you saw the two sweaters shown in our cover photo! All 4 sweaters are shown below with links to their Ravelry pages so you can scope them out to find your perfect match.

All four of these fantastic designs are knit top-down, in the round with Juniper Moon Farm Patagonia Organic Merino and are written for finished sizes from a 38" to 74" full chest measurement.

Techniques to try out in these sweaters include:

  • Short Rows
  • Stranded Colorwork
  • Catching Floats and/or Ladder Back Jacquard (we can help you figure this one out if you don't already know it!)
  • Stripes
  • Steeking aka cutting your knitting - if you're making a cardigan (we can help you figure this one out if you don't already know it!)

These sweaters are definitely geared towards intermediate and advanced knitters. The techniques involved are for the adventurous among us and may test your patience in the beginning. This is NOT meant to warn you off - instead it's meant to prepare you to challenge yourself with your stitching this summer!

They are also great for customizing to your heart's content. Don't like stripes? Leave them out! Want 3/4 sleeves? Go for it! Prefer a cropped or longer length? Have at it!
You CAN make the lobster/crab sweater of your dreams!

By the end, you'll have a gorgeous sweater that's great for a night on the boat, fireside at the beach, or showing off your love of seafood any time of year.

Whitney will be joining us for our first meeting to get us all started on the right path. It is recommended that you at least have your gauge swatch sorted out for our first get-together so we can all get going right away. (See our note re: swatching at the bottom of this listing!)

We will meet 3 weeks in a row in the beginning to make sure that everyone is well-established on their project at the outset. Then we'll meet 3 times every other week after that for check-ins, cheerleading, and moral support.

Your options for sweaters are:
