Learn Continental Knitting
Unlock the secrets of efficient and fluid knitting with our Continental Knitting class!
Continental knitting is another way to knit and purl, also known as "picking". The yarn and needle are held in your left hand, much like crochet. It is very economical in movement and some say faster. It also makes colorwork knitting a breeze!
In this workshop, you will:
- discover the basics - learn the fundamentals of Continental knitting, including how to hold the yarn and needles
- enhance your technique - develop your tension and speed as you practice your stitches and transitions
- troubleshoot and perfect - get personalized tips on common issues and techniques to refine your Continental knitting for a more enjoyable experience
Louise will also be teaching 2 different methods of Continental purling so you can choose which works best for you!
We've designed a cozy, self-striping cowl just for this class! You'll receive the pattern at the first meeting.
You will need:
- a copy of the pattern (provided in class)
- 1 skein of Uneek Worsted from Urth
- US size 7 16" circular needles
- stitch marker for your beginning of round
- darning needle for weaving in ends
- scissors
- your can-do attitude and a willingness to learn something new!
Before the first class, cast 108 stitches on to your needles and join in the round, being careful not to twist. Knit 1 round plain (however you currently knit) to be ready to jump into learning the continental knit stitch at the start of class.
A minimum of 3 participants is required for this workshop to run - encourage your friends to join us!

| Instructor Bio: | Louise is knitter, spinner, and aspiring weaver who lives in Topsfield, Massachusetts. Her work is inspired by her Norwegian heritage, which has been passed down to her by generations of Norwegian grandmothers. She loves to continue to learn Scandinavian techniques and is currently learning the art of plukkband, weaving Nordic decorative bands that add the finishing touch to a traditional Norwegian kofte (cardigan). |
