Show Me the Short Rows!
What is it about those pesky short rows?! They seem to strike fear into many a knitter's heart, when really they're not that tough once you understand the thought process and techniques.
Come make a hat with Tracy to learn more about them so you can apply your knowledge to further projects in your knitting life!
In this class, you'll learn:
- provisional cast-on
- wrap and turn (w&t) and German short rows
- how to substitue 1 type of short row for another
- why short rows and how they work to shape knitted fabric
- grafting in both garter and stockinette stitch
At the end you'll have a great new hat ready for wearing or gifting!
You'll need:
- a copy of the "Frost in March Hat" pattern (available for free via Ravelry)
- 1 skein of Lang Infinity (a self-striping, non-repeating worsted weight yarn - it's brand new to our shelves for Fall but hasn't arrived just yet. Don't worry, we'll let you know as soon as it's here!)
- crochet hook & waste yarn for provisional cast on
- US size 6 needles (Tracy recommends 24" circulars)
- stitch markers (preferrably removable but any will do)
- darning needle
- scissors
- your can-do attitude and a willingness to learn new things!

| Instructor Bio: | Tracy has been at Yarns in the Farms for nearly 11 years now - how time flies. Her aunt taught her to knit when she was a teenager and she really only started making sweaters about 6 years ago. Her annual Christmas hat tradition just keeps growing, which means she should really start knitting them in July but she still has not learned her lesson. Half of Tracy's handknits can be found residing at the shop at any given time and someday her unfinished WIP bin will be empty (maybe?). |
